Why You Should Switch To A Small Energy Supplier

The primary energy suppliers service 9 out of 10 households in the UK. Many Gas & Electricity customers have used one of the big suppliers for years without changing and most of those who do change go straight to another big energy supplier.

Many don’t even know there are alternative newer, smaller energy suppliers that will save them money. Some of these new energy suppliers are even non-profit organisations! At this moment in time, small energy suppliers are offering the best rates on both Electricity and Gas

And here’s why

Smaller energy suppliers are free from the Energy Company Obligation a government scheme aimed at reducing carbon emissions and fuel poverty. This scheme affects both consumers and suppliers. Under ECO Small Energy Suppliers don’t have the same obligations as larger energy suppliers, so make savings on the energy they supply. The smaller companies pass these savings onto you the consumer giving you the cheapest gas and electricity possible saving you money.

Unfortunately, there’s a misconception that smaller suppliers are not as trustworthy as the traditional leading energy suppliers. A misconception that puts a lot of people off switching to a smaller supplier even though it will save them money.

Smaller energy suppliers are regulated by Ofgem (as are the main suppliers) Ofgem regulates the UK energy market, making sure that all suppliers behave themselves and provide a fair, transparent service. Being regulated means, small energy firms have to play by the same rules as the big firms meaning they are just as trustworthy.

Another concern is small energy suppliers are not as stable as larger suppliers, and if they went bust, you’d be without power. Again Ofgem has you covered. Ofgem has a process that ensures that in the event an energy supplier fails the energy supply is instantly taken over by another energy supplier.

You’ll never be without Gas and Electricity thanks to Ofgem

How about customer service?

In recent surveys, energy customers reported getting better customer service from smaller energy companies. The three best companies for customer service were all small energy suppliers, while the main suppliers performed poorly in this vital area.

And if this isn’t enough

The top small energy suppliers are green by switching to a small supplier you’re doing your bit for the environment.

At the time of writing, Bulb is the UK’s biggest green energy supplier providing members with 100% renewable electricity and 100% carbon neutral gas.

Small Energy Suppliers

  • Offer the cheapest energy prices
