Consumer Unit Installation & Upgrade
We install BS EN 61439- compliant RCD consumer units in new buildings and extensions and upgrade old consumer units and fuse boxes.
New consumer units feature RCD (residual current device) fuses that trip instantly when a fault occurs, protecting you and your family from electrocution (which can kill and cause electrical fires).
Some older homes in Billericay still have old fuse boxes with traditional fuses with wire. These don’t cut out as fast as RCD’s, are inconvenient as every time a fuse blows, the wire has to be replaced manually (RCD’s are re-activated with the flick of a switch) and are a potential fire risk.
Old fuse boxes have wooden bases. New consumer units are made from metal and are much safer.
The consumer unit’s the most important part of any electrical system. The unit’s connected to the electric meter, sockets, lighting and electrical appliances and protects them from electrical overload.
Earthing & Bonding
Every time a new electrical installation’s undertaken, the Earthing and Bonding (which ‘earths’ the current protecting residents from electrocution) are checked.
Most Billericay homes built before 1991 still have a 4-6mm wire which’s no longer up to the present regulations. We’ll ensure your Earthing & Bondings up to the necessary BS7671 standard.
Ensuring the Electrical system and appliances are up to the legal standard is a common headache for Landlords, but it needn’t be.
We issue EICR certificates and carry out PAT testing ensuring your properties safe for your tenants.
You’re on the right side of the law, and your insurance’s valid.
- The electrical installation of a rented property must be safe at the tenancy start and maintained to a safe condition throughout the tenancy.
- Houses in multiple occupations (HMO) is inspected every five years (Electrical Installation Condition Report, commonly known as EICR)
- Appliances are safe with CE markings
Electrical Installation Condition Reports
To be on the safe side, it’s recommended that Electrical Installation Condition Reports are carried out annually on both HMO and non-HMO properties, which will fully cover your back as a landlord.
In the event of an electrical accident, you’ll have to prove you have met your responsibilities as a landlord and that a fully qualified and certified Electrician checked your property.
At a minimum, you should have an EICR every five years or every time the properties let to a new tenant.
We offer EICR’s at a reasonable price and thoroughly test your consumer unit, earthing, fuses, wiring, light fittings and sockets.
Any faults will be corrected, and a certificate’s issued once the inspection’s complete.
The EICR only covers the built-in Electrical system check portable electrical appliances with PAT testing (Portable Appliance Testing).
Plug-in appliances such as irons, washing machines, fridges, hoovers etc., are checked and tested for faults to ensure they’re safe for your tenants.
Annual PAT testing’s a legal requirement for (HMO) landlords but not for private landlords, many of which have yearly PAT testing anyway for extra protection.
Our electrical installation services cover the home and business. We offer full installations, which include consumer units, wiring, sockets, lighting and switches.
Or we can upgrade your existing electrical system to reflect your requirements and production needs better if you run a commercial enterprise.
Fault Finding & Electrical Repairs
We are experts at finding faults within electrical systems. Once we have pinpointed the fault, one of our electricians will make the required adjustments, repair or replacement of a part.
Testing is then undertaken to ensure your electrical systems running smoothly and safely.
Common electrical faults include burnt sockets, electric shocks, arcing, humming consumer units, tripping fuses and flickering lights.
Any of the above symptoms need to be checked and corrected. Electrical faults can be dangerous and should be dealt with.
Indoor lighting has come on in leaps and bounds over the last few years; there are so many different types of lights and bulbs available it isn’t easy to know where to start.
Don’t stay in the dark allow your local Billericay Electrician to design and install the perfect lighting for your home. By fitting each room with the right lighting, you’ll have the ideal ambience necessary for every indoor activity undertaken.
The Kitchen, Bathroom, Living Room and Bedrooms all need different lighting so you can enjoy your home to the fullest.
As the years progress more and more, people are installing outdoor lighting, and for a good reason, transforming garden areas into outdoor living spaces.
There’s nothing like sitting outside on a warm evening, so lighting ensures you and your friends can sit out after dark.
Lighting makes outdoor areas secure, deterring any would-be burglars and keeping you safe from tripping in case you ever have to go outside at night.
Modern Outdoor LED lights have become much cheaper to buy and are much less expensive to run than older style halogen bulbs.
We install both garden/landscape and security lighting and are happy to design and fit the perfect lighting installation for your unique home.
Every homeowner and landlord in Billericay should have their wiring checked every ten years, and the home rewired every 30 years.
Wires will deteriorate over time. Some local homes still have old installation (red live, black neutral, and earth green), phased out in 1970.
Electricians can undertake full and part rewires and consumer unit replacement where necessary bringing your home to the latest 17th Edition BS7671 regulations (brown live, blue neutral, yellow & green earth).
Modern twin and earth cables for the demands of the modern home and appliances.
Our Billericay Electricians can upgrade your existing outlets or add new power points to your home.
We fit all types of sockets, including those that feature USB ports (useful for mobile phone charging) and built-in RCD’s.
For fixed appliances such as cookers and boilers, we’ll fit fused connection units (with built-in fuses) and hardwire the appliance.
When upgrading your sockets, we can add new faceplates without replacing the backbox, which sits in the wall (or on the wall), keeping live wires safely out the way.
There’s no need to settle for traditional plastic faceplates. There’s a wide range of modern materials on offer that’ll match any decor.
These materials include stainless steel, metal, coloured plastic and wood.
Make sure your existing sockets are safe with no loose covers or single screws (make sure they’re secured with two screws at all times) and no cracks.
Sockets shouldn’t get hot and indicate a problem. Let us know if you would like your sockets checked to make sure they’re safe.
Outdoor Sockets are a must for Billericay gardens allowing the use of lawnmowers and portable outdoor lighting without irritating extension leads running from the home, which also doubles up as a trip hazard.
Outdoor sockets are water and dustproof, built from robust plastic with sprung covers, so they always shut when not in use.
These covers stop plugs being pulled out.
Anyone who’s ever mowed a lawn with an electric lawnmower understands how frustrating it is when the cable stretches and the plug pops out, cutting off the power.
For maximum protection, have us fit outdoor sockets with RCD’s protecting you from shock if you ever cut through a cable.
Protect your home or business with our security lighting services. In this day and age, all property is at risk from vandalism or theft.
Research has shown buildings illuminated with security lighting are less likely to be robbed or vandalised.
Criminals use darkness as their ally to undertake their unsavoury practices. Criminals hate lights.
A lit building is far harder to target the intruder thinks the place is occupied and knows CCTV can identify them.
We design security lighting systems to illuminate your vulnerable areas, such as poorly lit doors and windows, alleyways and dark yard/garage areas.
We’ll ensure the lights show off your other security systems, so any intruder notices your alarm system and CCTV cameras.
A combination of well placed timed and motion sensor lighting accomplishes security perfectly.
Security lighting is inexpensive and, when fitted with energy-efficient LED lightbulbs, is cheap to run also.
