Here are the types of Sockets we install
- Single Socket: This is a single socket with three prongs – one for live, one for neutral, and a third for earth the standard socket used for powering most appliances in the UK.
- Double Socket: This is a larger plate with two standard sockets side by side. This is common in many rooms, especially where many appliances or devices need power, like a kitchen or living room.
- Switched Socket: These sockets have switches that allow you to turn off the power to the socket without unplugging the device. This is a safety feature and can also save energy.
- Unswitched Socket: These are sockets without a switch. While less common than switched sockets, you may find these in some homes or businesses.
- USB Socket: A more modern development, standard sockets include one or more USB ports. Handy for charging devices like phones or tablets without a plug adapter.
- FCU (Fused Connection Unit) Sockets: These are outlets with a built-in fuse and are typically used for appliances that require a lot of power, like washing machines or dishwashers. They are often switched, and sometimes include an indicator light to show when the power is on.
- Shaver Socket: This is a special socket found in bathrooms to safely use electric shavers. They are designed to limit the current for safety reasons, given the proximity to water. They often come with an isolation transformer for additional safety.
- RCD (Residual Current Device) Sockets: These sockets are designed to prevent fatal electric shocks and protect against electrical fires by cutting off the power when it detects that the current is not balanced between the live and neutral wire.
And here are the switches we fit
- Single Pole Switches: These are the most common type of switches. They control a single light or a set of lights from one location.
- Double Pole Switches: Similar to single pole switches, they control two circuits or devices from one location. They have four terminals to connect to the circuit, allowing for the concurrent control of two fixtures.
- Two-Way Switches: These switches allow you to control one light or a set of lights from two different locations. These are useful for rooms with two entrances, where you may want to turn the lights on or off from either entrance.
- Intermediate Switches: These are used with two-way switches for scenarios where control from more than two points is required, such as in a hallway, stairs, or a large room.
- Dimmer Switches: These allow you to adjust the brightness of the lights, providing more control over the room’s ambience.
- Pull Cord Switches: These are often found in bathrooms for safety reasons. The pull cord can safely operate the light switch, despite moisture.
- Smart Switches: These switches allow control over your home’s lighting remotely via a smartphone app or voice commands using smart home devices. Smart switches offer additional features like scheduling, dimming, and even integrating with other smart home devices. They can contribute to energy savings and increase home security by controlling lights even when you’re not home.
- Touch & Remote Control Switches are more modern switches, allowing for touch operation or even remote control. Some can even be controlled through smartphone apps.
- Time Delay Switches: These switches will turn off after a certain period of time, which can help save energy in spaces like communal stairways.
