Rewiring is an area of expertise within our team of licensed and insured NICEIC registered Electricians.
Electrical System Inspections
The first step is to establish if you need Rewiring undertaken at your property. Next, an Electrician will inspect and test your Consumer Unit and Wiring.
- For Homeowners – You should have your property inspected every ten years.
- For Landlords – You must have an EICR (Electrical Inspection Condition Report) every five years or at the start of each tenancy.
If there is an issue with your property’s wiring, it’s best to get it inspected as soon as possible by a qualified electrician. It’s always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to Electricity.
Our Electricians have undertaken many Electrical Inspections in Brentwood for homeowners and landlords over the years.
When assessing the age of a building’s electrical system, the first thing an Electrician will look at is the colour of its wiring.
Over time, as technology has advanced, so have the regulations surrounding wiring to provide better safety.
Domestic wiring has three wires live, neutral and earth. All wiring fitted after 2006 is Brown, Blue and Green & Yellow.
For most homes with Brown, Blue and Green & Yellow, Rewring won’t be required. However, an inspection every ten years is required to verify safety.
The wiring installed between 1977 and 2006 was Red, Black, Green & Yellow. There is a possibility that the wiring has become unsafe over time as a result of ageing. An inspection will verify this.
Homes built before 1977 were fitted with Red, Black and Green wiring. So if your wiring is these colours, your home will most likely need rewiring.
Modern Electrical systems are fitted with metal consumer units that include up-to-date RCD fuses, which protect people, the electrical system and appliances from shocks and overload.
If you have a consumer unit constructed from metal, it’s probably safe and okay to use.
Before metal became, the standard plastic consumer units were often used. While most Plastic Consumer Units operate safely, they are not as safe as a non-combustible consumer unit, so a replacement is a good idea.
If you have an old-style fuse box with wire fuses, it should be replaced ASAP. You have an old electrical system, and your home may need rewiring too.
Always get your Electrical system inspected by a qualified Electrician. If it is troublesome, there’s a fault somewhere, and it could be down to old wiring in your home.
Benefits Of Rewiring
Rewiring a property gives you peace of mind knowing that your electrical system is up-to-date and working efficiently without any risks to you and your family.
It’s not just about meeting safety regulations. Modern wiring can also help reduce energy consumption costs, by taking advantage of newer technologies like LED lighting that consume fewer Watts than traditional light bulbs.
When Rewiring a property, you have the option of adding additional sockets, switches and lights, which will provide better day-to-day service than your old wiring system.
In order to meet the latest electrical safety regulations in homes, all new building work (such as extensions) must adhere to Part P building regulations. The upgraded wiring in your house will comply with these regulations.
Rewiring is generally an extensive process, but our team works hard to design your system and ensure the work flows smoothly and disruption is minimal.
The work itself involves removing all existing wiring, consumer units, sockets, switches and lighting.
We route the new wiring around your property, ensuring it is safely installed inside walls, under floors and ceilings.
Once the Electrical system is in place, it’s thoroughly tested, and certification is issued at the end of the job.
Our experienced electricians take great care throughout the rewiring process, ensuring everything runs smoothly without compromising on safety, quality standards and regulations at any point throughout the work.
Once the Rewire is complete and the new Electrical system is in place, it’s thoroughly tested. Once the testing is complete and our Electricians are satisfied, the installation is 100% finished and safe for use certification is issued.
Once complete, you’ll know that your new Rewiring will provide you and your family with Electricity safely for several decades.
