We are trusted Electricians who are both NICEIC registered and fully insured.

Let our team of experienced Electricians handle the rewiring in your home or for your business.
Wiring Checks
Properties built within the last three decades rarely require rewiring.
Nevertheless, it is essential to schedule an electrical system inspection every ten years to verify safety.
Suppose you rent a property as a landlord. In that case, there is a legal obligation to carry out an electrical safety inspection (EICR) before the start of each tenancy or once every five years.
TM Hughes & Son offers full inspections of your wiring and electrical system. Whether it’s your place of residence, let property or business premises.
To properly determine the condition of the wiring, an inspection with tests will be carried out by one of our NICEIC registered electricians.
The tests are done to the correct standard, and if the Electrician finds any faulty or damaged wiring, a free, no-obligation quote will be written for repairs/rewiring.
Before 2006, the wiring was Red (Live), Black (Neutral) and Green & Yellow (Earth).
Pre-2006 has been in place for some time. It may require replacing to bring it up to modern standards.
If pre-1977 wiring is present (Red, Black and Green), rewiring is almost necessary because the wires are decades old.
A rubber-coated wire was used pre-1960 and will need replacing if present in your home.
The current wire colours are Brown (Live), Blue (Neutral) and Green & Yellow (Earth).
If your home has up-to-date wiring with these colours, then it is likely that a rewiring service is optional. Still, check your wiring/electrical system if you suspect any faults.
It is important to note that despite identifying the age of your electrical system by wire colour, an inspection by a qualified electrician will provide a definitive answer on whether rewiring is required and confirm whether your electrical system is safe.
Fuse Box/Consumer Unit Checks
As well as the wiring, it’s important to have your Consumer Unit checked and, if necessary, update it to meet the latest safety regulations.
Some homes in Benfleet still run their Electrical system off traditional-style Fuse boxes, which were once part of all Electrical systems.
Modern Consumer Units constructed from non-combustible metal are now standard and are incredibly safe.
If you have an old, traditional-style Fuse Box, it will require upgrading.
If you have an old Consumer Unit constructed from plastic, you may need an upgrade also.
New Consumer Units are fitted with the latest RCD fuses, which are highly safe and cut power instantly if a fault prevents electrocution, damage to appliances and electrical fires.
Checking Electrical Faults
Electrical problems can arise from faulty wiring, which will present themselves in various ways.
Fuses may trip more often than usual, and shock from light switches and outlets, arcing sound coming from switches or outlets, discolouration of sockets or switches, odd burning smells, and regular bulb failure are all indicators that there could be something wrong with the electrical wiring.
Rewiring Your Property
TM Hughes & Son Electricians have undertaken many full and partial rewires in Benfleet and the surrounding areas.
Our team of qualified electricians ensures that the process is as hassle-free as possible, with minimal disruption to you and your family throughout the installation.
Part P Electrical Safety Regulations must be met whenever renovations and extensions occur in a home.
Before the work starts, our team will arrange for building control to be notified of the new electrical installation and ensure they know all the work.
The wiring is carefully planned out. Sockets, switches and lighting can be fitted in new locations. Additional sockets and light switches are a handy addition to every home.
As the years have progressed, people have become reliant on more electrical devices, which were not considered when Old wiring systems were built.
Wiring is run through walls, in ceiling boards or under floors depending on the layout and type of your property. All necessary components, such as the consumer unit switches, sockets, etc., are connected alongside external hard-wired appliances like boilers and ovens.
Once all components have been installed and connected correctly, we can finish works like boarding/filling in walls, plastering and decorating.
Finally, we provide certification so that you have a record that a professional electrician undertook the installation in accordance with NICEIC standards.
