Does Your Property Require Full Or Partial Rewiring?
Here are a few instances where your property or business premises may require Rewiring work.
Your Property Is Over Three Decades Old
Once installed, Electrical wiring should last 30 years and can last even longer in certain conditions.
To ensure your property’s Electrical system is safe, it should be Rewired every 30 years.
If your property has not been Rewired in the past three decades, you should have the wiring and other components of the Electrical system checked by a certified Electrician.
Your wiring is probably ok for those who live in modern properties built within the last three decades. You should, however, have it inspected every ten years to ensure safety. If you let a property, your system will need checking every five years or at the start of each new tenancy.
Your Wiring Is Red, Black, Green & Yellow
Wires installed in homes between 1977 and 2006 were Red, Black, Green & Yellow.
Before 1977 the colours were Red, Black & Green. So if the wires in your home are these colours, the chances are they are over 30 years old and will be over 40 years old if you have a green-only earth wire.
Your wiring should be inspected and tested to determine its age and condition.
Electrical Faults
If you have any of the following Electrical faults, it could be down to old or faulty wiring. The system should be checked and tested by an Electrician.
- Fuses that trip regularly
- Burning signs on sockets
- Electric shocks from sockets or switches
- Flickering lights
- Arching sounds from sockets or switches
- Burning smells from Consumer Unit
Old Fuse Box
Old Fuse Boxes are still present in many homes throughout Hockley. They are generally mounted on a wood base and contain traditional fuses with melting fuse wire.
If you have an old fuse box, the wiring may also be old and need replacing.
Old Consumer Unit
The latest Consumer Units are constructed from non-combustible metal. Older Consumer Units are plastic, and although many are safe for use, having your Consumer Unit and wiring checked by an Electrician for safety is a good idea.
Adding Space To Your Home
An electrical system will be added if you are undergoing a major renovation at home, such as an extension.
Extra space can be wired and connected to your existing consumer unit. Sometimes, an additional Consumer Unit can be added to power your new area.
Extending Your Electrical System
Today we use more plugin appliances, devices and lighting than ever. But unfortunately, many older Electrical systems were not built with this modern capacity in mind.
Rewiring your home allows you to extend your Electrical system to add sockets and switches in convenient locations around your home.
Increasing Commercial Output
If you run a business in commercial premises and want to increase your commercial output, rewiring, partial rewiring, or the extension of your Electrical system may be required to accommodate extra power outlets, computers, tools, equipment, machinery etc.
Electrical Inspection Survey & No-Obligation Quote
If any of the above points apply to you, or you feel there is another reason your property may need wiring, we would like to inspect your Electrical system.
An NICEIC-registered Electrician will inspect and test your wiring and Electrical system. You’ll be written a free, no-obligation quote if any Rewiring work is required.
Rewiring Planning & Process
Over the years, TM Hughes & Son Electrical Services Ltd have undertaken many Rewiring projects in and around Hockley.
The process can be disruptive. That is why we meticulously plan every rewiring project to ensure minimal disruption to you and your family.
Rewiring work varies in complexity depending on the type of job, size, and condition of your property.
Rewiring work ranges from a few hours to a few days. Some work can be undertaken with you and your family on the property. However, larger, more involved jobs that require moving ceilings and wall boards may require you to move out for a few days.
Our Electrician will review everything with you during the survey and lay out the work involved along with an accurate timeline.
All work is undertaken to Part P Electrical Safety Regulations. The Building Control will be notified before the work starts.
Following completion of the work, certification will be issued that proves a certified Electrician undertook the Rewiring to NICEIC standards.
